JSC 'OKBM Afrikantov' (a 100% subsidiary of JSC Atomenergoprom) completed installation and tuning of the main equipment for experimental fast reactor (CEFR), which is being built in China with assistance of Russian enterprises. The works completed included reactor protection system, heat exchangers, refueling mechanism, I&C, individual safety systems.
 

The enterprise fulfilled its obligations to the Chinese Client.

Reactor leak testing has been completed.  In May 2009 the reactor will be charged with sodium, and in July-August it will be fuelled. The fuel will be supplied by JSC TVEL (a 100% subsidiary of JSC Atomenergoprom). Start-up of CEFR is scheduled for the second half of 2009.

Completion of CEFR would allow enhancing collaboration with China in the field of fast power reactor construction. Moreover, China is interested in unique FN power reactors. Currently, such reactors are operated only at Beloyarsk NPP in Russia.   

NOTE:

CEFR stands for China Experimental Fast Reactor. As is the case in Russia, development of the large-scale nuclear power industry of the 21st century in China is based on fast reactors capable of using the nuclear fuel in the most efficient way. Development of CEFR is a state priority for China.
